Taking Perfect Care of Your Pioneer Edge Knife
Taking care of your knife is important for long-term use, as neglecting its care can cause severe damage. The edges of the blades are very sharp. To get such razor-thin edges, these are factory sharpened at an angled position of 10 to 15 degrees. Cutting at this angle leads to a narrower edge, so use caution.
You may find all the information you need to properly take care of your knife in this section, including how to clean it, store it properly, and sharpen it using any of the several suggested techniques.
Cleaning Your Knives
Only Hand Washing
Knives should always be washed by hand. Dishwashers can harm the handles and dull the cutting edges because of the strong detergents and intense heat.
Apply a Light Detergent
Wash the blade with a gentle sponge or towel and a little detergent. Strong chemicals and rough pads should be avoided since they can harm the blade’s surface.
Dry instantly
Use a fluffy towel to quickly dry the knives after cleaning. Allowing them to air dry may result in water stains and rust.
Proper Storage
Knives are incredibly sharp; they should be maintained securely to prevent incidents and secured from little children’s grasp. The knife blocks, knife docks, magnetic wall racks, and knife rolls/cases are suggested for usage to storage.
Do Not Keep it in a Drawer.
Knives should not be kept loosely in drawers as this might lead to tragedies when someone reaches in and blunts the blade.
Sharpening Your Knives
To keep your knife’s edge sharp, use a honing steel regularly. By aligning the blade’s edge, polishing maintains its cutting edge between actual sharpenings.
Depending on how often they are used, sharpen your knives using a whetstone every few months or get them done by a professional. A sharp knife is safer and more efficient than a dull knife.
Maintaining Knife Handles
Wooden Handles
Apply mineral oil to hardwood handles to keep these from drying out and breaking. Do not submerge them in water.
Metal or Composite Handles
These may be quickly dried after being cleaned with a moist towel. Keep the material away from strong chemicals that might eventually deteriorate it.
WARNING
- Avoid soaking in water before cleaning. Avoid soaking in any bleach-containing or abrasive cleaning solution specifically.
- Avoid using strong cleaners or detergents that include chlorine bleach.
- Never try to chop through bones or frozen food. Slice gently, both forward and backward, if you cut into something firm or cold.
- On surfaces made of marble, stone, tile, or glass, never cut.
- Avoid using a chopping motion when cutting. This makes your knife dull and is not the correct method to cut. Using a slicing motion way ( which is forward and backward) is better.
- These knives are meant to be used for preparing food; do not use them for any other reason. They should never be used as a wirecutter, crowbar, or screwdriver.
